What a wacky, fun week full of special days! We've loved celebrating Dr. Seuss's life this week!
*Next Friday is a half day of school, and no lunch will be served. Dismissal is at 11:50. Please let me know if your child's transportation is different from usual on this day. If I don't receive a note or email, I'll assume that there's no change.
*Conferences are the evening of March 16. Parent/Teacher conference sign up:
*Upcoming field trips:
Please note that our Museum of Transportation trip has been rescheduled for Thursday, March 30. If you signed up to chaperone and need to make changes, you can access the Sign Up Genius by clicking here. With this change, that means we have two field trips right in a row...April 6, the next week, is our Purina Farms Field Trip. Please don't be surprised when those forms come home soon.
*March book orders are due on Monday, by sending the order form to school or ordering online. This quick deadline is so that books are in before Spring Break.
*The deadline for ordering a Long Elementary School 2016-2017 Yearbook is today. If you'd like to order, but did not return the form, you can visit www.inter-state.com/yearbook and enter the code 12710P to order. Cost is $13.00.

March Reading logs are in binders. Please set your goal for March. (A goal of 20 books or more is perfect!) As Spring Break and summertime start to approach, it's very easy to get off track with reading at home. Please try to stay in your school routine as much as you can...in Kindergarten, there is so much development and growth that happens each month. This is the time of year when our reading really starts to bloom!

This week, the Peeps learned about Dr. Seuss's life. We know that books about other people are called biographies. When a person writes a book about themselves, it's an autobiography. We're working on our autobiographies now! Page 1 is about where we were born and where we live. Page 2 is about where we go to school, and what we're good at. Page 3 is what we want to be when we grow up. These books are full of fantastic illustrations, too! Next week, we'll finish up our autobiographies, and start writing opinions!
We've finished our Chapter 6 math booklets, and those are coming home in binders today. Please take time to look through your child's work. Some children are making number reversals, which is very developmental for kindergartners. They will correct their writing in time. I always encourage the children to check their numbers, and some friends are very careful to write numbers correctly! Please praise your child for working neatly and carefully! If you notice errors, please encourage your child to correct their work. It's not necessary to spend a long time on this, but it is very helpful for children to correct any mistakes that they make, that I may not have caught during my time walking around and helping.
Today was the 121st day of school! I'm very impressed that the Peeps can count that high! On the 120th day, we stretched our list of numbers out to see how long it is, and it went all the way across the room!

This week, we've spent time learning more about Dr. Seuss and how writers have to persevere. It's not easy getting books published! Dr. Seuss sometimes wrote books that he did not illustrate. He used a pseudonym by writing his real last name backwards. His real last name was Geisel, and his first name was Theodor. So if you see books by Theo. LeSieg, that's really Dr. Seuss! We wrote pseudonyms for ourselves by writing our names backwards, too! It was so funny!
