Peeps in Action

Dr. Parker visited our classroom, and read the book Ribbit. In this story, a pig only said, "Ribbit!" He wanted to make friends with the frogs in the pond. The frogs didn't know what to think! You can click on this link to hear the story on YouTube with your child. It's a great story!

In our Reading Workshop lessons this week, we've learned that readers re-read to learn MORE. We can read a book from cover to cover, learning a lot from the pictures! We've learned that the pages in a story all go together. We can say connecting words like "and then" to connect the pages. When we re-read, we can add a pinch of ourselves to the story, by talking about our ideas and experiences. At this stage in our reading, we're developing oral language and talking about what we notice in the books. We are looking for words that we're sure would be in the story, too. For example, in the book about lions, we look for the word "lions." We love to read non-fiction books!

Here we are in action during a part of our Math Workshop. The Peeps are exploring patterns. We've learned that a pattern with two colors is an AB pattern!

We can make a square with snap cubes, too! It's very tricky, because a square has four sides that are all the same! Some friends can even make squares that have patterns! WOW!
