Weekly Report

This week, we've had a bit of island fun as we've practiced the letters of the alphabet and worked to learn letter sounds! One of the highlights of our week was seeing the Zuzu Acrobats in action. Be sure to check out the pictures below this post, and enjoy the last part of your Labor Day weekend! If you'd like to order books from Scholastic this month, here is the ordering information. You can order online, or return your book order form with a check payable to Scholastic Reading Club.

We've continued reading non-fiction books this week during independent and partner reading in our Reading Workshop. The Peeps love using sticky notes to mark the "wow" parts of the story, so that they can share with their partners! We have learned about the power of re-reading a story to learn more. We also know that reading is even more fun when you add a pinch of yourself to the story. That means making connections from your life experience to what the story is about. During our read aloud times, we've read Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, The Deep Blue Sea, The Rainbow Fish, The Pout Pout Fish, Big Al, and more! Click on the links to see YouTube readings of these stories. (You can count them on your September Reading Log!) Don't forget to set a goal with your child. I would suggest at least 10 books for the month, but you could read 30 or more! It's up to you.

Authors and illustrators write and draw about things that are happening in their lives. They can use pictures and words to share an idea. We've been putting our work in our writing folders. Our folders have a green sticker side for pieces we're working on, and a red sticker side for pieces that are finished.

We've learned lots of ways to show 2 this week, and we've explored patterns and learned about squares. Please look for 2 booklets. We learned a rhyme for writing 2: "Around and back on the railroad track. Two! Two!"

We know that living things grow, eat, and breathe! We've classified things as "living" and "non-living" during science lessons this week.
