This game was "Steal the Bacon." The children each had a number, and when their number was called, they tried to be the first to kick the soccer ball to their team.
This game was one of our favorites. The children ran to collect the colored rings. The first person on each team chose the color for the whole team to collect. Then each person in the line had to get that same color. If another team was already collecting that color, the team would need to figure that out quickly, and change colors!
Our next game looked like it would be so much fun...but this ball was really big, and it actually rolled right over some of our little Peeps. We still enjoyed trying to kick the ball, but we had to be really careful. Some of the Peeps decided to watch and cheer for the third graders on our team.
Then we played a water relay! When it was their turn, the children ran to fill up their cup, and then empty it into an orange bucket. The winners are supposed to be determined by which bucket was the most full, but honestly our Peeps didn't remember which bucket went with their team. So they just put the water in whichever bucket they wanted to. (It was so funny; everyone had so much fun just filling up their cups to put in the buckets!)
Tug-o-War! Some Peeps told me that this was their favorite game! Look at these strong almost-first-graders! WOW!
The next game was a sponge relay. The children passed a wet sponge to their teammates, and then tried to knock over the bowling pins!
We played "Peek a Boo." The children were separated into two groups, and we held up a tarp so that they couldn't see the friend on the other side. We dropped the tarp, and the first person to say the name of the person on the other side won!
By about 11:15, the Peeps were getting tired and hungry. We came back into the classroom to rest and recharge a little before lunchtime. We had a tasty lunch, and then went back outside for snow cones and more activities until about 2:00. By then, everyone was really tired!! So we had a wonderful hour watching "The Magic School Bus" and playing in our classroom centers. Everyone was able to cool off, relax, and just enjoy playing together. It was a terrific afternoon!
Thank you to our parent helpers! I feel very lucky to have had five parent volunteers! Not many of the classes had that number of helpers, and it really made things run more smoothly! (I feel like I've hit the jackpot with supportive families this year--with great communication, help from home, and help at school--you all are the BEST! 😊)
