What a day we had at the St. Louis Zoo! I was so proud of the Peeps, and the way that they worked together in their groups! They designed their touring plan, and worked hard to read the zoo maps as they toured different areas that they wanted to see. We had five zoo groups: The Diamondbacks, The Stingrays, 3 Cheetahs, 4 Cheetahs, and The Gorillas. Here are some pictures that I took using the St. Louis Zoo app (free on itunes).
We did have to practice saying, "Oh well," when we found out that the zoo educational department made a mistake. They had written down our zoo class at 10:00, and we scheduled it for noon. We had the confirmation to show them that we were correct and it was their mistake, but they didn't have staffing or animals ready for our classes. So they let us ride the train instead! This worked out just fine, because our zoo groups had time to visit more of the animals that they wanted to see.
Here are more pictures from our wonderful rain-free day at the zoo! (I feel so lucky to have had good weather!)
One thing we needed to find on our scavenger hunt (with our zoo books) was a busy zookeeper. I found this one cleaning the penguin exhibit!
We read a book all about Kali ("Cully") the polar bear, and how he came to be in St. Louis! Kali is a big show off. He loves to swim for people!
Can you believe that these kiddos are almost first graders?!?! They have really grown this year!
