We Are Readers!

This morning during Reading Workshop, we learned that we are readers! There are two very important things that readers do...they look, and they think! We looked all around the room at things we can read. We found the word "pencils" on the pencil can! We found "trash can" on the trash can! We did so well that we decided to take a reading walk in the front hallway to see what we can read.

These green signs all have the same picture. So we really have to look and think to be able to read what they say. We did it! We know where everything is in the front hallway now!

(At this point in our reading development, it's perfectly fine if children say "bathroom" when they are reading the "restroom" sign. The important thing is that they get the meaning right. As we learn more about how letters and sounds work, we'll figure out that it can't be "bathroom" because there's no /b/.")

Readers can read the world!
