We've had a wonderful start to the school year! I'm so excited to be working with such a fantastic group of children. I told them that I would miss them all weekend, and it's true. It's a good thing that I have pictures!
Each week, I will send you a recap of what we're learning, so that you'll know exactly what we're up to. I know that some children will tell you a lot, and some may not. (When I was a little girl, my dad used to ask me every evening if I'd been busy learning my "ABC's and 123's".) Please feel free to email or call anytime you have any questions at all. The only bad question is the one that you don't ask!
We read beginning of the year stories together like Owen, Pete the Cat, and We Share Everything. We love to hear and participate in stories, and the Peeps have shown me already that they are awesome whole-body listeners! (Please click on the book titles to enjoy the books read on YouTube.) We made blue handprints on the first day of school, and then on Friday, we turned those into Pete the Cat! I took them to get laminated, they were so awesome!
We've been learning how to use our workshop materials! The Peeps have made self-portraits, and drawn pictures about getting ready for school.
We put numbers on our August calendar, and we've been counting together. Next week, we'll start learning many different ways that we can show numbers!
As a class, we decided that we have jobs to do while we're at school. Our jobs are our mission statement. We (1) stay safe, (2) learn, and (3) have fun! Those are the most important things about Kindergarten! When we read Owen, there was a part where Owen's dad put vinegar on Owen's blanket, so that he wouldn't be so attached to it anymore. We put vinegar on a blanket, too! We needed to know what that would smell like! P-U! YUCK! (Scientists use their five senses to observe the world around them!)
Monday is C Day - P.E. Please have your child wear tennis shoes to school. We won't always have time to change shoes, and this can be problematic.
Tuesday is D Day - P.E./Health. Be sure to wear tennis shoes!
Wednesday is E Day - Library/Technology
Thursday is A Day - Art
Friday is B Day - Music
Thank you for taking the time to read our Weekly Report! Please remember to send a snack with your child. The best place for snacks is in backpacks...not in lunchboxes. All snacks must be nut-free.
Click here to view our lunch menu. The children will put their picture on our lunch chart each day by their lunch choice. It's fine to change each day!
