Halloween Shadows

We've been learning about nighttime and shadows. We discovered that a shadow is made when something blocks the light from the surface it's trying to shine on. So when you put a Halloween shape between the light and the wall (or ceiling), it makes a shadow!

The Peeps put their cutting skills to the test: Halloween shapes can be VERY tricky to cut out! We sat on the carpet together, so that we could talk about our cutting strategies: your thumb goes on top, take little nibbles of the paper (not big chomps), and use your holding hand to turn the paper as you slowly close the scissors on a curve. There's a lot to think about! Look at this concentration:

After the cutting was finished, it was time to turn off the lights and make some shadows!

After our activity, I left my camera on the step under the whiteboard...when we came back into the classroom from the library, one of the friends picked it up, and took these pictures. Everyone was saying, "CHEESE!"

You've gotta love it! (And that'll teach me to leave the camera lying around in Kindergarten, right?)
