Weekly Report

There are lots of new posts on our blog...please be sure to see the information about our music program on Thursday, November 10 in the following post. Thank you for taking the time to see what's going on at school!

**On Monday, the Peeps will be able to participate in Kids Voting when they go to the library. They have filled out their voter registration cards, and they're all set! Look for the sample ballot in your email, if you would like to help your child prepare. If you don't help, that's OK too. It's their vote, after all!

**For Halloween on Monday, please send your child's costume to school in his/her backpack or a separate bag. No weapons or makeup, please. We'll change after our Library/Technology time, and then be ready for the parade and party. The children who are going home on the bus or Flyers Club can change back into their regular clothes before dismissal. If you are planning to take your child home that day, there will be a sign-out sheet in the classroom. Please email me with any questions you may have. We're looking forward to a fabulously fun Halloween!

All of the children are reading books in small guided reading groups! Mrs. Karen Carroll and I are reading with the children daily. We're using our Reading Super Powers! We use our Picture Power to observe details in the pictures to get our brains thinking about what the story might be about. We use our Pointer Power to find words that we can point to!

Please keep reviewing our sight words as often as you can. When we know them "in a snap," we are even better at using our pointing power--we can make the words match, and we know we're right!

We're working on developing the concept of a story with a beginning, middle, and ending. We're also working on our letter formation and handwriting. We've had the "name of the day" this week, and students have learned the "kindergarten way" to write several of their friends' names! We'll use this information soon when our classroom post office opens. It's so much fun to write letters and notes to friends!

We've been working on numbers 9 and 10 this week. We've been working on the skill of subitizing, which is when you can look at the dots on a die, or the dots on a 10 frame, and instantly tell how many there are without counting each dot. It's lots of fun! This skill is helpful to have before working on addition and subtraction. We're thinking about how many more we need to make 10, and learning how two groups go together.

The Peeps have learned all about the life cycle of pumpkins this week, and we've enjoyed learning about what happens in fall.

Sunday is Trunk or Treat, from 4-6 pm.

Monday is Halloween! It is also an E Day (Library/Technology) Our party starts at 2:00, with the parade before that at 1:40. Parents are welcome to come into the classroom to help us change into our costumes, beginning at 1:25.
