We took a nature walk on Friday afternoon, because it was such a beautiful day. There were signs of fall all around! In the park, we found lots of acorns under an oak tree! We collected them!
The Sassafras tree is the only tree that has three different types of leaves on the same tree! There's the "dinosaur foot" leaf, a "teardrop" leaf, and a "mitten" leaf...all on the same tree! The Peeps were so excited to try to find all three on the ground!
Imagine the children saying, "Look! Mrs. Powell, LOOK!" and you'll have an idea of what this was like. We were so excited!
We noticed lots of other leaves, too! Leaves from different types of trees are different!
Some of the boys and girls wanted bags to bring their leaves, stems, and seeds home. One child said, "This is actually like a treasure hunt!" Other children didn't want to take things home. I said that it could be optional. Everyone could make their own choice.
We found some acorns that were starting to sprout! We know that plants need three things to grow: sun, soil, and water. If we provide those things, will these acorns grow into trees? (See if your child can tell you three things that plants need in order to grow!)
Our nature walk was lots of fun! What a perfect way to end the week!
